So, like, apparently, one in four job applicants out there has told a fib or two on their applications. And guess what? Gen Z is totally leading the pack on this one. According to some data from career.io, nearly half of these Gen Z kids (that’s like 47% to be exact) have admitted to fudging the truth on their job apps to try and impress potential employers. Millennials are next in line at 38.5%, followed by Gen Xers at 20.4%, and baby boomers bringing up the rear at 9.4%.
The spreadsheet that was shared with Fox News Digital lays it all out — a bunch of zoomers are lying about their “work experience” (almost 23%) and “job responsibilities” (almost 28%), with “job title” coming in third at 17.57%. And get this, some of these applicants are even fibbing about multiple things on their applications. It’s like, who knew, right?
Amanda Augustine, some Certified Professional Career Coach, mentioned that these young applicants are just desperate to make a good impression and get that foot in the door. She’s worked with a bunch of clients who all think they’re perfect for a job, even if their resumes don’t exactly scream “perfect fit.” But hey, everyone deserves a shot, right? Augustine believes that all generations are guilty of embellishing the truth a bit, but it’s the younger folks who are really going all out with these white lies or straight-up fabrications. It’s like, they just want to look more experienced than they really are, you know?
