Loewe Puzzle Bag Celebrates 10 Years of Style

So, like, the Loewe Puzzle bag is turning 10 this year. Can you believe it? Since its big debut back in Spring 2015 on the women’s runway (it also made an appearance on the men’s runways that same season), this bag has been through so many changes, man. It’s like, been made in all sorts of materials and styles, becoming a real symbol of the Spanish fashion house that’s been around for, like, forever – 179 years to be exact. The dude behind this cool bag is Jonathan Anderson, who used to be the creative director at Loewe. He designed this bag to look like origami, which is why it has that unique shape and patchwork leather vibe going on. And that’s how it got its name, the Puzzle bag. Even after a decade, this bag is still one of the most out-there yet practical designs on the market. You know, in this day and age, it’s pretty hard to come up with something totally new, especially in the world of handbags. People are always bringing back old styles that were popular in the past – it’s like a cheat code for success, ya know? Balenciaga brought back their City bag from 2001, Dior reissued their Lady Dior and Saddle bags, and Chloé just revived their Paddington style after 20 years. But Loewe managed to create something truly revolutionary with the Puzzle bag under Anderson’s direction.

The RealReal’s Women’s Fashion and New Initiatives Lead, Rachel Glicksberg, totally gets why this bag is so special. She calls it a genderfluid piece of “wearable art” that’s gonna stay relevant for a long time. According to her, the Puzzle bag is all about the innovative design and expert craftsmanship. In a world where things are changing super fast and quality is going down in the luxury market, brands that focus on top-notch craftsmanship and quality are the ones that are gonna stand the test of time. The Puzzle bag is known for its versatility, with people saying it just keeps getting better with age. And you know what? Glicksberg and data from The RealReal back that up. They say this bag is a “modern ‘it’ bag for a heritage company” and it’s a favorite among street style stars. Celebs like Beyonce, Sienna Miller, Cate Blanchett, Kate Bosworth, and Julianne Moore have all been spotted rocking this unique bag.

To mark its 10th anniversary, Loewe is dropping their Puzzle 10 collection, which features 19 re-editions from past collections and one brand new design. It’s all set to launch on May 29th, so mark your calendars! Over the years, they’ve released different versions of this bag, from ones with cool painterly motifs inspired by British Arts to others with marquetry pansies paying tribute to American artist and poet Joe Brainard. The newest design, “Confetti,” is covered in tiny leather and metal sequins, inspired by sculptural cubes of compressed confetti created by Italian artist Lara Favaretto. Each bag in the collection comes with a special metal plaque and two Loewe balloon charms. If you wanna check out this new collection, Loewe’s website has a digital experience where you can learn all about the Puzzle bag’s history and the new and reissued styles. You can also find them in select Loewe stores. And if you happen to be in New York, Bergdorf Goodman is hosting a pop-up showcasing select re-editions in their Fifth Avenue windows. It’s gonna be a fun birthday bash for this bag that’s come a long way in the past decade.
