Christian Dior’s latest show paid tribute to Olympian ladies and their struggle to compete among the world’s greatest athletes, with only 2% of athletes being women in the early Olympic Games. The collaboration between Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri and female artist Faith Ringgold showcased over 30 giant images of women in various sports, originally created for the LA subway and reproduced in cloth by the Chanakya School of Craft in India.

The show at the Rodin Museum featured a mix of ancient Greek-inspired designs and modern athletic couture. The collection included peplum tunics, floor-sweeping dresses adorned with gold motifs, and stunning bodysuits in tulle and silk panels. The runway was filled with cowl neck gowns and cotton jersey pieces, creating a unique blend of couture and sportswear.

The soundtrack for the show, curated by sound specialist Michel Gaubert, added to the powerful atmosphere, as models like Jisoo, Deva Cassel, and Venus Williams strutted down the catwalk. The audience, including celebrities like Rosamund Pike, Jennifer Lopez, and Doja Cat, gave Maria Grazia a standing ovation as she took her final bow.

The show also honored Faith Ringgold, the late artist whose work inspired the collaboration. Ringgold, who passed away in April at the age of 94, was a pioneering figure in the art world and her legacy was celebrated through this unique fashion installation.

Overall, Dior’s Athletic Antiquity Couture show was a powerful statement that blended history, athleticism, and high fashion in a way that captivated the audience and paid homage to the strength and determination of women throughout history.
