Selena Gomez is excited to return to her Disney roots with the upcoming sequel series, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. At the recent ABC and Disney Upfronts event in New York City, Gomez revealed that the revival would be titled Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. The original series aired from 2007 to 2012 and has since experienced a surge in nostalgia.
The new series will follow an adult Justin Russo, played by David Henrie, who has chosen a normal, mortal life with his family. When Justin’s sister Alex brings a wizard-in-training named Billie to his home seeking help, Justin must dust off his magical skills to mentor her while juggling his everyday responsibilities.
Gomez and Henrie will both serve as executive producers on the show, with Gomez making a guest appearance. The pilot episode will be written and executive produced by Disney Channel alums Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who worked on Raven’s Home. The series is set to premiere on Disney Channel on October 29, 2024, and will be available on Disney+ the following day.
The cast of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place includes Janice LeAnn Brown as Billie, Taylor Cora as Winter, Mimi Gianopulos as Giada, and Alkaio Thiele and Max Matenko as Justin’s children, Roman and Milo. While Selena Gomez will only be a guest star in the pilot episode, David Henrie will fully reprise his role as Justin.
The official trailer for Wizards Beyond Waverly Place was released on September 24, 2024, giving fans a glimpse of the reunion between the Russo siblings and the introduction of the new characters. The trailer promises a mix of magic, adventure, and heartwarming moments that fans of the original series will surely enjoy.
In addition to the trailer, Disney also released a behind-the-scenes teaser during the premiere of Descendants: The Rise of Red’. The teaser features the main cast members, including Selena Gomez, David Henrie, and Janice LeAnn Brown, as well as a cameo from David DeLuise, who will return as a guest star.
