The affected product, the 2 lb Natural Mix logs, is a popular item sold in retail stores as a “meal base, supplement, or topper” for dogs. This cuisine, which contains beef, green tripe, beef heart, and beef liver, is typically stored frozen and then thawed in the refrigerator prior to serving. It is crucial for pet owners to check items purchased between January 3 and January 24 of this year for the lot number Lot # N25/12/31 and the UPC# 854298001054, which identifies the recalled product.
The recall, which affects a total of 6,000 pounds of the product, is concentrated in just over 25% of the states where the mix is sold. The impacted states include Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee, and Rhode Island. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cautioned that both pets and humans may be at risk of salmonella exposure, as individuals could come into contact with the bacteria while handling the contaminated food.
According to the FDA, individuals who have had contact with the affected product should monitor themselves for symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever.
