A brush fire broke out in Corona on Monday afternoon, causing concerns for residents as it threatened homes and led to road closures and evacuations. The fire, known as the Serrano fire, started around 2:42 p.m. in the 600 block of Corona Avenue, close to Serrano Drive, as reported by Corona Fire Department spokesperson Daniel Yonan.

Firefighters quickly responded to the scene and worked tirelessly to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby homes on Mandevilla Way. Two water helicopters were called in to assist in the firefighting efforts, along with additional reinforcements. By late afternoon, the fire’s progress had been halted, and it was contained to less than 12 acres. Despite this, crews from 18 engines remained on-site to extinguish any remaining hot spots.

While no official evacuation orders were issued, residents living along Mandevilla Way, Via Blairo, and Tampico Circle were advised to evacuate as a precaution. These orders were expected to be in effect until 8 p.m. Police also closed off several key roads leading to the affected area to ensure the safety of residents and emergency responders.

Fortunately, no homes were lost, and there were no reported injuries by 5 p.m. on Monday. The cause of the fire is still unknown and is currently under investigation by authorities. Fire officials are committed to providing updates to residents through social media channels to keep them informed about the situation.

As wildfires continue to pose a threat in California, it is essential for residents in high-risk areas to stay vigilant and prepared. Creating defensible space around homes, having an emergency evacuation plan, and staying informed about local fire conditions are crucial steps in ensuring the safety of individuals and their properties.

In times of emergency, it is important to follow the instructions of local authorities and evacuate promptly if required. By working together and supporting one another, communities can effectively respond to natural disasters and minimize the impact on lives and properties.
