A public health alert has been issued for some ready-to-eat wraps amid concerns that the products may be contaminated with listeria, a bacteria that can cause illness in humans. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recently dropped the bombshell about Rachel’s Food Corp. chicken and bacon ranch wraps that were being sold in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York. The wraps, which were sold under the brand names Big Y Quick Easy Meals and Market 32 by Price Chopper, were found to have a sell-by date of May 7 and the lot code of 25122.

The FSIS explained that the issue came to light when a state public health partner alerted them about a product sample that tested positive for listeria monocytogenes. Despite the alarming discovery, a recall was not requested as the contaminated products were no longer available for purchase. Mike Pepin, the vice president of operations for Rachel’s Food Corp., assured the public that there is no immediate cause for alarm as the wraps are no longer in circulation. However, the FSIS is concerned that some consumers may still have the wraps in their refrigerators, urging them not to consume the potentially harmful wraps.

It’s worth noting that no illnesses have been reported thus far due to the consumption of these products. The wraps, which were produced on May 2, bear the establishment number P34657 inside the USDA mark of inspection. While the wraps are no longer on the market, the FSIS is keeping a close eye on the situation to ensure the safety of consumers. So, if you happen to have purchased these wraps, maybe it’s best to steer clear of them to avoid any potential health risks.
