Actress Abby Elliott is like on cloud nine rn after a much-needed vacay. She wrapped up filming the fourth season of “The Bear” in Chicago and then jetted off to New York to catch up with her old pals, watch a Broadway show, and rock some stunning jewelry as our cover star. She was totally blown away by all the bling and felt like a whole new person after getting a solid 11 hours of sleep one night. Can you even imagine that?
Back in LA, she hopped on Zoom with Alexa to chat about jewels, caftans, improv, and the amazing support she gets from her girls’ text group. She also dropped some hints about what’s coming up on “The Bear” and a new miniseries she’s doing with “Succession” star Sarah Snook.
Snook, who stars in the play “The Picture of Dorian Gray” that Elliott saw, left her completely awestruck. She couldn’t stop raving about Snook’s energy and performance. The jewelry Elliott wore for the shoot with us was just as dazzling as her co-star. She felt like a princess in that grand penthouse on Leonard Street, trying on clothes she’s not used to wearing.
When she’s not working, Elliott sticks to her Connecticut roots with button-downs, trench coats, and a good pair of jeans. She mentioned how she’s always getting spilled on, so the LA athleisure look is her go-to. She and her husband, Bill Kennedy, have two adorable kiddos, William and Edith, who keep them on their toes.
Elliott, a former “Saturday Night Live” cast member, comes from a comedy family background. Her dad is Chris Elliott, known for his role in “Schitt’s Creek,” and her grandpa was part of the comedy duo Bob and Ray. She honed her skills at the Groundlings in LA before landing a spot on “SNL” in 2008. Since then, she’s appeared in various comedy shows like “Inside Amy Schumer” and “Garfunkel and Oates.”
She’s now a key player in the acclaimed show “The Bear,” which blurs the lines between comedy and drama. The new season is set to premiere in June and is sure to keep the audience guessing. The show is filmed in Chicago, where Elliott loves mingling with the locals and taking her kids to her favorite spots.
Elliott didn’t spill too many details about the upcoming season of “The Bear” but hinted at the complex relationships and challenges the characters will face. The palpable tension in each episode keeps viewers hooked, exploring how past traumas affect the characters’ lives.
Despite the dark themes of the show, Elliott finds humor in real life. She appreciates the memes and laughs shared in her text group with her friends. She admires her character Sugar’s ability to navigate conflicting emotions and hopes to be more assertive like her.
Next up for Elliott is “All Her Fault,” a miniseries she filmed in Australia. She plays a character different from Sugar, which she found refreshing. The experience of shooting in Australia with her family and co-star Sarah Snook was memorable and fun.
Elliott is grateful for her improv training, which she picked up from her dad’s advice. She believes improvisation is a valuable skill for public speaking and navigating life’s uncertainties. As for the future, she’s open to exploring different genres that blend comedy and drama, finding humor in even the darkest moments.
Our cover shoot took place in the luxurious Clock Tower Penthouse at the 108 Leonard building in Tribeca. The stunning location provided a perfect backdrop for the shoot, showcasing Elliott’s elegance and charm.
And that’s a wrap on Abby Elliott’s whirlwind journey from Chicago to New York to LA and beyond!
